If you have a home office, there are a variety of things that you can do to help out in the environment. Having a greener home office is a worthy pursuit. So, here are a few important tips that can help you to have a green home office and do your part to make sure that the environment is being taken care of.
Tip #1 - Make Sure You Recycle - One of the most important things you’ll want to do if you want a green home office is to make sure that you recycle. You will no doubt have a lot of paper along the way, since you can’t totally get rid of it, and you will want to make sure that you take the time to recycle it. Of course you can shred it up first to make sure no one gets a hold of sensitive information, but then you should be sure to recycle.
Tip #2 - Try to Limit Use of Paper - Limiting the use of paper in your home office can help you to make your home office a greener place as well. Sure, you will have to use some paper in the office, but you can cut back. Avoid printing unless you have to. Or, print on both sides of the paper. Many times instead of throwing away old documents, you can use them again by printing on the back. (Yeah, it’s ugly — but it works!) You can avoid printing so much and using so much paper by keeping many of your files stored on your computer. If you want a green home office, start only printing when you really have to. Or, go paperless! (OK, that’s not an easy tip. But it sure works.)
Tip #3 - Turn Off Appliances - Turning off your appliances can be very helpful to you as well. You’ll find that many people who work at home walk away leaving on appliances and even lights while they are not in the office. It will be expensive for you. Just taking the time to turn of appliances and lights can save you a lot of money and you’ll be limiting the amount of energy that you consume, which helps make the environment a better place. In fact, unplugging appliances that are not used frequently is another excellent way of conserving.
Tip #4 - Choose Green Furniture - Last of all, if you want to have a green home office, consider some green furniture. You can renovate the office a bit to make it greener. Go with furniture that is made of renewable resources, instead of furniture that is going to end up in a land fill.
These are just a few things that you can easily do to green up your office space and with these simple tips you can make your office a green home office that you can feel good about.
