The 2010 Consumer Electronics Show did not disappoint this year. One of the trending themes was eco-tech and boy there were some interesting offerings. One in particular stood out: The hand charger by YoGen.
If you don’t mind a little exercise, the YoGen hand charger will turn your energy into power for your gadgets. Basically, you pull the string, and it turns a mini flywheel that produces a steady stream of power for small, portable devices. According to the company, you only need to pull for about a minute to fully charge a phone, and it produces about 5 watts.
It works for LG, Nokia, Sony & Micro-USB and is slim and pocket sized (it fits in your hand — duh!). My understanding is it’s not yet 3G ready, but check the company site for the latest. But it’s compatible with darn near everything. It charges devices with only a few minutes of pull/release time and it’s charge/time ratio is similar to standard AC wall chargers.
Check out the video. It’s kind of hilarious, but I thought I’d post it anyway! You’ll get the idea…
